Condolences & Tributes

I first met Dick in high school when Grafton H.S. played Holliston H.S.in baseball. I was Holliston's catcher and we met at home plate when he tried to score and I tagged him out. As I remember that collision resulted in Dick being removed from the game. We both attended Springfield College, Class of 1964. As a freshman I lived in a dorm and when I checked in for my first day on campus Dick LaDuke was my roommate. Dick was the hardest worker in his academic life that I ever met. Many nights I would awake at 2 or 3 o'clock and Dick would still be working on his homework. We lost touch over the years we spent at Springfield but I never lost my admiration for his work ethic. His success in life was due to that work ethic and his commitment to Springfield's Spirit, Mind and Body emphasis. May he rest in peace.

Being the NJ neighbor of Dick’s on the Cape, we always loved his declaration of being a Yankees fan… especially since we are diehard Red Sox fans! Dick was always a hoot. We so enjoyed his entertaining stories, his “defined” eating preferences and his over the fence conversations. The Cape will not be the same for us. To Evelyn and family, our sincere condolences. We will all miss him!

Reading your obituary Dick brought back our conversation regarding a Harding St. reunion that unfortunately never happened. But the memories of growing up there will always exist ... those nightly backyard baseball games, sliding down the middle of the street from the field behind the school, your Dad's chicken coops, Grandma Allen's wonderful braided rugs, the street's Fourth of July fireworks, etc. Such great fun, such a great way to grow up! Rest in Peace my friend. Condolences Evelyn to you and your family.  Judy (Boutiette) Zaleski

Evelyn and family: The president of our class of 1959 GHS and a prominent member of the winning basketball team that year. I have fond memories of Dick and our close class. I am glad he had so many good years as a coach and mentor to the students and athletes at Westboro. The loss is always great but the memories will remain. I will be thinking of you all. I was so saddened to learn of Coach’s passing. I worked with him the past few years and looked forward to seeing him every day. He always had a smile and a story to tell. He was such a tough man and an inspiration to many. I will miss him.

Uncle Dickie, you always had a smile for everyone! You made all feel welcome no matter the circumstances. I have many wonderful memories that I cherish. Holidays spent together, cash and check and your vegetable garden. Days at the pool and one of my favorite…going to the high school and jumping on the trampoline.

Thank you for spending time and sharing memories with my dad during his final days with us. He so enjoyed that! It meant a lot to all of us.

To Evie and the kids my deepest sympathies.
