Obituary for Michael Lee Oevermann

Michael Lee Oevermann passed away May 2nd in the loving arms of his wife of two years, Alexa Rose. In a recent battle with health issues, including vertigo and dizziness, he suffered an unknown head injury which resulted in a seizure. Tragically, Mike succumbed to his injuries.

He was just hitting his stride while still in the honeymoon stage of life. He and his wife have been revisiting their favorite spots in Kennebunkport, Maine, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Chatham, Massachusetts. Mike loved his 2015 F80 M3 individual BMW and was a car enthusiast. He loved driving and attending major car events, showing off his world-class ride.

Mike grew up the oldest of six children in Grafton, MA, graduating in 2003. Always taking the lead in life, he was the most outgoing, a three-sport captain, and an incredible athlete, his passion being football. He was a wonderful husband, and an amazing friend, brother, son, uncle, and son-in-law. He loved his four brothers, sister, Mom, Dad, and Granny very much. His nephew Wes was one of his greatest loves, and he was always showering him with love and toys any chance he got.

Mike attended the Newport Jazz Festival every year with Alexa and Granny, along with any siblings who wanted to join. He was always bragging about his family members and how much they meant to him. He was so proud to be the oldest of the Oevermann clan and would make sure people knew it.

He was an Expert Large Loss CAT Adjuster who jumped at the chance to work in hurricanes in Florida and New Orleans. He was first on the ground helping people put their lives back together after the storm.

Mike and his wife Alexa were inseparable, gardening, playing frisbee, dancing in the kitchen, laughing, collecting shells and pretty rocks, always exploring the woods and beaches, and taking kind care of their two cats, Kevin, and Theo (the boys). He was a world class Bocci Tournament winner in Chatham every summer with Alexa’s family. He loved games, practical jokes, animals, painting, music and most of all, his life with Alexa.
He was animated, fun-loving, extremely creative, passionate, and artistic, with an excellent fashion sense. As a Shareholder and Fashion Advisor for Stall & Dean, he shared his own designs for the Men’s Spring line.

Michael leaves his wife Alexa Rose, his Mother Kari, Father Ulrich, brothers, David Oevermann, his wife Shannon, his nephew Wesley, his brothers Nick, Doug, & Greg Oevermann, his favorite sister Katarina Oevermann, his Grandmother Karen Gavel, Grandmother Rosemarie Foster, his uncles, aunts, and wonderful cousins. He also leaves his in-laws, Russell, Donna, and brother -in-law Tucker McKinnon. Mike was predeceased by his cousins James Murray Gavel and Anna Gavel, as well as his grandfathers Herbert Nyberg & Jim Foster.

Mike’s energy was contagious, and he was one of those few people who through a simple conversation could brighten anyone’s day and help you forget about all the noise and BS we are constantly surrounded by. He generously sprinkled a little joy and enthusiasm wherever he went, and his absence will be profoundly felt by everyone he knew and loved.

In honor of Mike, we ask that everyone love each other a little harder, a little louder and a little more like Mike.

In lieu of flowers, Mike was very passionate about youth sports, animals, and breast cancer research, please consider donating towards a cause of your choice.
