Obituary for Betty J. Morgan

Betty J. Morgan, a woman of exceptional beauty both inside and out, passed away December 9,
2023, at the home of her eldest son, Bob, in Cohasset, MA. As she was widowed for over forty
years, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren had the remarkable opportunity to share
their homes and lives with “Nan”. She called herself a butterfly, moving from family to family caring
for little ones, shopping with friends and making her famous chocolate chip cookies and Christmas
fudge. Her love language was gifts and she never failed to show up with a bag full of treats for the
lucky ones in her orbit.

Betty was born in Hudson, MA, to Merle (Barnett) and William Tate on June 7, 1927. She married
Robert Morgan on October 29, 1949 and was immediately embraced by his large and loving family.
Betty truly cherished family life, a trait that she carried with her until the very end. She was a caring,
loving mother to Betsy (John) Quinn; Bob (Donna) Morgan; Susan (Ken) Durning; and, John
(Annie) Morgan; a devoted grandmother to John, Jr. (Shayna) and Jennie Quinn; Bob III (Megan),
Jake (Diana), Thomas and Christopher (Allison) Morgan; Megan (Michael) Gautreaux; Sarah (Rob)
Cope; Grace and Caroline Morgan; and, a beloved great grandmother to Meadow and Trey Quinn;
Lucy Morgan; Wesley and Luke Morgan; Christopher and William Morgan; Jackson, Hudson and
Archer Gautreaux; and Violet and Frederick Cope. She will be remembered and missed by countless
others, as she was truly a grandmother to legions.

Husband Bob’s untimely passing in 1983 was difficult for her, but “Nan” took great solace in her
family. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Tallman. Her life was a master class in how to grow
old gracefully, as she was always open to new ideas, meeting new people and celebrating important
events. She enjoyed vacationing with her family and never turned down an invitation.

Her family is most grateful for the past year, as each of her children took care of Betty for three
months at a time. She spent three months in Marietta, GA with Susan and her family. The next stop
was three months in West Hartford, CT with Betsy and her family followed by three months in
Grafton, MA with John’s family and a final stop with Bob and his gang. Her children were
privileged to have the opportunity to take this journey with their mother and each other. She was
loved by many.

A private service will be held at Roney Funeral Home in Grafton, MA. A celebration of her
truly amazing life will follow in the coming months. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation
to The Norwell Visiting Nurse Association in Norwell, MA or to The Home For Little Wanderers at www.thehome.org.
