Obituary for Francis X. Hanam

GRAFTON: Francis X. Hanam of N. Grafton, former longtime resident of Hopedale, passed away peacefully at UMass Memorial Medical Center on Lake Ave. on Nov. 20, 2022. Francis leaves and will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, June (Perkins) Hanam and his wonderful family – his daughters, Pam Hanam of Worcester, Sue Krikorian and her husband Kevin of Auburn, and his two grandsons, Matthew and James. He also leaves his brother Russell Hanam and his wife Irene of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. Francis was predeceased by his brothers, William, Raymond, Edward and Gerald and his sisters, Caroline Bolton, Betty Dunphe, Marion White, Jean Mossey, Shirley Latino, Eleanor Gregoire and Edna Putnam. He was born on the Feast Day of St. Francis Xavier, March 12, 1933, the son of William and Martha (Penny) Hanam. He was raised in Worcester, Ma. - the ninth of thirteen children. Fran served as a staff sergeant in the US Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War. He taught for 30 years at Hopedale High School and was the math department head. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #88. Francis enjoyed playing pool with his grandsons and other family members, spending time at Hampton Beach every summer and gathering for family Sunday spaghetti dinners. We are very thankful to UMass Memorial and Fresenius Kidney Care for their excellent care and support. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in N. Grafton on Saturday December 3, 200 at 11:00am . Burial will be private. Roney Funeral Home of N. Grafton will be handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Fund or a charity of your choice. The family requests that an act of kindness to someone in need may be made in honor of Fran’s life.
