GRAFTON: Helen T. (Szymkiewicz) Holmes, 74 passed away after a sudden illness October 14, 2022. Her husband of 46 years, Galen Holmes passed away in January of 2020. She leaves her children Galen Holmes and his wife Danyle and Robin Holmes, her grandchildren Jolene Ferreira and her husband Jeremy and Lauren Nathan and Keller Holmes and great-grandchildren Jace, Summer, and Skylar Ferreira, Layla Nathan and Giovanni Bernard. She also leaves her brothers Dave and Wayne Szymkiewicz and sister Wanda Szymkiewicz Crabtree.
Helen was born March 9, 1948 in Brockton, MA, daughter of the late Pia (Tallarida) and Adam Szymkiewicz. Her roots were in Bradford, NH where she grew up before she eventually relocated to Massachusetts with her late husband Galen where they raised their family. If you remember Helen as a younger woman you might have seen her driving through town in her beloved red Firebird. She became a Pediatric Registered Nurse by trade and worked for many years at Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester and eventually Great Brook Valley Health Center. Away from work she loved the seacoast of Maine and the beaches on Cape Cod, playing her daily lottery numbers, making fantastic homemade brownies or quietly working on a knitting or crochet project.
All are welcome to gather with Helen’s family and friends Thursday October 20, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. She will then be laid to rest Friday October 21st at 11:00am at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, MA 01475.
