Obituary for Shakir Shukri

Shakir “Jack” Samuel Shukri, age 87, of North Grafton, MA passed away on September 4, 2022 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester. He was the spouse of 61 years to Roswitha Shukri , father of Soraya Shukri-Sundberg, father–in-law of Greg Sundberg and beloved “Jidu” (Arabic for grandfather) to Derek, Samantha and Alex Sundberg of Cranston, RI. He was also the Uncle of Buthaina, Fiona and Mazin Shukri of Maryland and Texas and Faris and Basil Safar of Sweden. He is predeceased by his brothers Shafik and Jamal, and sister Shafika.

Jack immigrated to the United States in 1969 from Basra, Iraq to Framingham, to seek a better life. He obtained an undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics and Masters in Business Administration from Babson College. For many years, he worked as a Systems Analyst at Dennison Manufacturing, Data General, and Wang Computer and finished his career with Metropolitan Life. He was a member of Grace Congregational Church where he enjoyed being an usher and was a one-time President of the Boston Chapter of the Administrative Management Society.

What he really enjoyed was living in his “village” of Grafton, having meals with his grandchildren, talking to his kind neighbors and the clubs and organizations he and Rose belonged to. He was loved by his family and described by those who knew him as kind, warm, friendly, a happy addition to any get-together and a pretty good dancer. We will always miss him. A remembrance in his honor will be held at a later date.
