Obituary for Matthew M. Rourke

TEWKSBURY/GRAFTON: Matthew Michael Rourke, 35, passed away following a tragic accident on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (Lucas) Rourke, his mother Lois Rourke, his sisters Meghan Rourke and Keely Labertew (Rourke), as well as his beloved dogs.
Matt’s roots were in Grafton, MA, where he spent his entire childhood and attended Grafton High School where he played varsity football. More recently, Matt resided in the Boston area with his wife.
For the past several years, Matt was employed by National Grid Company, where he was a First Class Underground cable splicer in Malden. Matt was known for his hard-working nature, reliable sensibility, and easy rapport with his co-workers.
He loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that he is resting with his two heroes who predeceased him: his father Michael Rourke and his grandfather Harvey Beaudoin.
Matt lived his life according to the strong values instilled in him by these two men; and will be forever remembered for his exceptional work ethic, generosity of spirit, as well as, perhaps, his Irish whisper.
He showed up when it mattered, had your back, gave to those in need, and would defend and stand up for his loved ones should the need for it arise. He was our protector and guardian.
Words are inadequate to express the magnitude of our loss.
Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Matt’s life by raising a glass of their favorite whiskey in his memory.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 4 at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street, North Grafton, with calling hours from 9-11:00AM and a Remembrance service from 11-11:30AM. Immediately following the service, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at Post Office Pub, a familiar hometown venue where he would most likely be instructing the women in his family to stop crying already.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Matt’s name with the ASPCA, in tribute to his life-long love of dogs. To donate, please visit the Matthew Rourke Memorial Campaign page at https://secure.aspca.org/team/Matthew-Rourke-memorial-campaign
