Obituary for Richard A. Coleman

Richard Allan Coleman, 78, of Northbridge, MA passed away on March 24, 2022 at Milford Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. The youngest son of Edward and Alice (Seaver) Coleman he was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Robert and Gerald.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna (DeSantis) Coleman, a son Christopher of Northport, AL, a daughter Diana Serino of Stratford, CT and son-in-law Joseph Serino. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved puppy, "Olivia".

He graduated from North High School in Worcester and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Worcester State University in 1966.

Richard spent his teaching career in the Grafton Public School System instructing students in English and then Social Studies. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Richard coached Varsity Baseball in Grafton as well as Cross Country and Girls Basketball. Later he coached baseball at Anna Maria College and was ever a mentor to the young athletes.

From little league through college he was a star baseball player, primarily at third base. He was a member of the Worcester Umpires Association for many years.

In his retirement he became a movie buff and self-appointed assistant/advisor to the Joe Flynn harness racing business in South Grafton. Richard truly loved horse racing, visiting Saratoga Springs, NY with close friends each August for many enjoyable seasons.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Milford Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion for Richard. All are welcome to calling hours at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 Tuesday March 29th from 9 to 10:30am followed by the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Peter's Parish 39 Church Ave. Northbridge, MA 01534. Burial will be private at the convenience of his family.
