Obituary for Marien E. Chartier

GRAFTON: Marien E. (Shocik) Chartier, 89, passed away and departed this world suddenly on March 5, 2022. Her husband of 49 years, John “Jack” Chartier passed away in 2005. She leaves her sons John Chartier, Jr. and his wife Dana and their children Taylor and Madison; James Chartier and his wife Eva and their children Erick and Katey; Col. Ret. Daniel Chartier and his wife Cindy and their children Christian, Emily, Nathan and Jacob; her daughter Susan Turner and her husband Steven and their children Charles and Harris; her great-grandsons Gavin and Logan Chartier; her sister Evelyn Saari; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Clemens Shocik and sister Stella Berryman. Marien was born November 27, 1932 in Worcester, daughter of the late Amelia M. Burdzel and Louis E. Shocik. She grew up in Cherry Valley and eventually moved to Grafton where she and Jack raised their family and she lived for more than 60 years. While she worked for a time at Tri-River Family Health Center in Uxbridge, work was never what defined Marien. She lived a life of service and faith; she was a volunteer and contributor at Meals On Wheels, Rachel’s Table, Jeremiah’s Inn, The Grafton Senior Center, and a devoted Parishioner of St. Philip’s Church in Grafton. Away from work she and Jack traveled the world together. Marien cherished her many friends and enjoyed her Saturday night dinners, Tuesday hikes, Sunday breakfasts after Mass, and the many happy occasions she shared on the “Common” with her condominium community. In lieu of flowers please honor Marien with a donation to The Grafton Food Bank, P.O. Box 324, Grafton, MA 01519. All are welcome to gather with Marien’s family on Friday, March 11th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street, N. Grafton, MA 01536. A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Marien on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 am at St. Philip’s Church on West Street in Grafton. Those attending the Funeral Mass will be requested to wear masks.
