Obituary for John E. Mahoney

SUTTON: John E. Mahoney, 63, passed away February 4, 2022 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Maria (Lamusta) Mahoney, his children Patrick, Todd, and Megan Mahoney, his siblings Karen Bertrand and her husband Russell, David Mahoney and his wife Kathleen, Roger Mahoney and his wife Linda and Paul Mahoney and his wife Beth and several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. John was born December 14, 1958 in Whitinsville, MA, son of Aline (Bousquet) and the late Edward Mahoney. John had a love for the outdoors and a passion for agriculture. He enjoyed spending time in the hay field with his father, sons, brothers, and most of all his tractors. John was a man of many talents, from home renovation to restoring tractors, his beloved 1972 Corvette, and many other interests. He possessed an extreme work ethic. As a young man he owned an excavation and welding company while also working for Wyman Gordan. He had a vast amount of roles within W-G during his career. From being a first class welder, research and development technician, moving on to supervising the titanium plant and the forge shop before moving on to American Superconductor, as the supervisor of facilities and maintenance. Away from work John had a thirst for the open road, traveling across America in his RV whenever he could with his family. He spent many years going tractor pulling with his family and friends. He took great pride in his Class A CDL drivers license and often said “I can drive anything but a school bus.” John endured great strength and courage. He was a man afraid of nothing, he took on many challenges but always had a plan. Above all else he treasured time with his family. All are welcome to gather with John’s family and friends Friday February 11th from 4pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for John Saturday February 12th at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Church 356 Boston Road Sutton, MA 01590. All those attending the Funeral Mass are requested to go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the National Fragile X Foundation https://fragilex.org/donate or donations can be made payable to NFXF and mailed to National Fragile X Foundation, 1861 International Drive, Ste 200, McLean, VA 22102.
