Obituary for Robert J. Prentiss

UPTON: Robert J. Prentiss, 94, passed away at home on January 18, 2022 following a sudden illness. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Marion R. (Fiske) Prentiss along with his son Bruce Prentiss of Upton and son James Prentiss (Cathy Prentiss) of Eagle, WI. He will also be missed by his granddaughter, Julie Guilbert (Dan Guilbert) of Uxbridge, MA and Craig Prentiss (Stephanie Prentiss) of Mendon, MA along with his great grandchildren, Joseph Lesiak Jr., Matthew Guilbert, Peter Guilbert, and Mia Prentiss. He was predeceased by his siblings William Prentiss, Edward Prentiss and Beatrice Libbey. Bob was born in Milford, MA, June 19, 1927, son of the late Susan Emma (Aldrich) and LeRoy Prentiss. He lived a long life of service to others, beginning shortly after his High School graduation from the last class at Upton High School (1945) when he joined the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran. Bob dedicated much of his life to the Upton Fire Department where he was an active member for 31 years, served as Fire Chief for 2 years in the late 1970s, and after retirement was an active volunteer wherever he could help the Fire Department and Town of Upton for more than 30 additional years. A significant achievement was Chairman of the Fire Station Building Committee during the construction of the current state-of-the-art fire station, which was completed in 2003. Other areas of service include being a lifelong member of The United Parish of Upton where he served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee, a member of the Blackstone Valley Forestry Association, and President of the Bay State Abrasives Retirees’ Association. Bob was also a past member of the Hopedale Country Club and its Senior Golf League.
