BEVERLY: Linda May (Hutchinson) Purdy, 76, died on January 26, 2021 at Beverly Hospital due to complications from Covid-19. Linda was a lifelong resident of Beverly, MA. She graduated from Beverly High School class of 1962 and The Beverly School of Nursing class of 1965 and worked as a local nurse for over forty years. She was widowed by her husband, Steve (Arthur) Purdy Jr. in October 2000. Linda is survived by her sister Sharon Ann Hutchinson, her three children Paula Jeanne, Michael James, and David Joseph Purdy. She has also left behind seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.


The beach and The Rose Garden at Lynch Park, in Beverly was a favorite and frequent refuge for Linda. She had a sign in her home that read, “Near the Sea We Forget to Count the Days” and she planted roses in her garden for all of her family members - one added for the addition of every new member. In the spring, when the flowers are in bloom and the waves crash against the rocks, Linda will be delivered home to the sea. At her request, there will be no formal services. Her children and sister will be at Lynch Park in Beverly under her favorite trees near the Rose Garden on May 15th to celebrate Linda’s life between 10 AM and 1:00 PM In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Beverly Recreation Department, 55 Ober Street, Beverly MA.
