Obituary for Erin R. Coakley

GRAFTON: It is with profound sadness that the family of Erin Rose Coakley announces the peaceful passing of their precious daughter on December 28, 2020. She was born on July 10, 1995 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the daughter of Daniel and Mary Coakley of Grafton, Massachusetts.

Erin was an amazing young woman with a beautiful soul. She will be lovingly remembered for her radiant smile, quick wit and hearty laugh. Erin was a precious gift who brought such incredible joy to all of us. She was a compassionate daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and friend. She loved gathering with friends and family telling stories, singing, cracking jokes, and being silly. She enjoyed music, dancing, watching movies, sports and hiking. Her relentless determination and focused passion allowed Erin to achieve many accomplishments in her young life.

Erin attended Wheaton Warrenville South High School graduating in 2013. She completed her B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island in May of 2017. Her fondest memories during these years included the friendships she made during her active involvement in clubs and sports, especially as a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, and during an incredible internship in Australia. Before moving on to her graduate program, Erin worked at the Grafton Recreation Department and South Grafton Elementary School. Most recently, Erin was pursuing her dream of becoming a physical therapist as a student in the DPT program at Plymouth State University, New Hampshire. She gave her full heart and mind to this endeavor, and was so fortunate to meet a group of students and professors who became her family.

Erin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She had an unforgettable spirit, and a light within her that will never be forgotten. During this difficult time, we will gather to celebrate Erin by remembering all of the wonderful memories we shared, and the unique way she touched each of us. To honor Erin, we will commit to living life to the fullest, making the most of every experience, something that she modeled for us throughout her life.
Erin will always be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She leaves behind her parents Dan and Mary Coakley, her brother Connor Coakley and his wife Alicia (Bonneau), and her sister Maura and many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary (Flanagan) and Bernard McGee, and Daniel Coakley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to the Best Buddies. This is a fitting tribute given Erin’s adoration of children and the strong connections that she has made with them, especially those with special needs.

All are welcome to gather with Erin's famly and friends Friday January 8th from 4pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton MA 01536. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday January 9th at 11:00am at St. Mary's Church 17 Waterville St. N. Grafton MA 01536. Burial will be private. An additional Celebration of Life service will be planned for Erin later this year.
