Obituary for Susan Lorden

Susan Lorden
Susan M. (Waters) Lorden, 78, passed away October 8, 2019 following an illness. Her husband John Lorden passed away in 1994. Susan is survived by her son Sean Lorden and Jacquie Whitman, her sister Virginia Lobue and her husband Louie, her grandchildren Patrick, Ryan and Kelsie Lorden, her nieces Barbara Ward and her husband Tim and Debbie and Johnny Corboy. She also leaves Courtney, Shane and Luke Corboy and Josh and Alyssa Ward who she also loved and thought of as grandchildren as well. She was predeceased by her daughter Lisa Lorden and daughter in law Claudette Joncas Lorden. Sue was born August 19, 1941, daughter of the late Virginia and Francis Waters. She grew up in the St. Paul’s parish in Boston where her family lived in a three decker on Woodford Street. In her earliest days the family performed minstrel shows to raise money for their church. There were always aunts and cousins on each floor of the house. She attended St. Kevin’s grammar school and Monsignor Ryan High School in Dorchester when the family lived there on Clancy Road. Summers were spent on Monponsett. Sue always had a large group of friends that remained close throughout her life. There were memories on the water with them swimming, boating and water skiing. Nights at the Hotel Monponsett were plentiful where dances and whist parties were held to support Our Lady of the Lake Parish. Sue was a nurse, having finished Nursing school she worked at Carney Hospital then went back to school to become a Registered Nurse as she wanted to have more contact with her patients. She met John Lorden while with a friend on Cape Cod one summer and they were married in 1968. They found their home in Shrewsbury where they raised their family. When their children were approaching high school age she worked at the school calling home about truant students which helped her keep a close eye on Sean. Later in life she and John traveled to Florida where they stayed at Pompano Beach and they also saw the world through Caribbean cruises, as well as trips to Ireland and Aruba. Following John’s passing she met Life, a man who would become a loving companion to her for many years as she returned to Ireland and also saw Europe with him before his passing. Sue was fortunate to have Afia Kwakyewaa in her life for the last 18 months as a companion and provide her with the best possible care. Sue’s family will be forever grateful for her compassion and love she brought to her life. In lieu of flowers please honor Sue with a donation to the Claudette Joncas Lorden Memorial Scholarship c/o Homefield Credit Union 86 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. All are welcome to gather with Sue’s family and friends Tuesday October 15th from 10am-11:30 am at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 followed by the celebration of her Funeral Mass at 12pm at St. Mary’s Church 640 Main St. Shrewsbury, MA 01545. She will then be laid to rest at Mountainview Cemetery in Shrewsbury.
