Obituary for
William D. Coats Jr.
SUTTON: William Dee Coats Jr. passed away on January 15, 2019 after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 30 years Mary (Huntington) Coats of Sutton and two sons, Garrett Coats and Nathan Coats both of Sutton. Bill was born in Albuquerque New Mexico and grew up in Tracy California. He is a graduate of Harvard University and Boston University School of Medicine. He held positions at the University of Southern California Kech School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Angiographic Research and at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine as a Senior Research Professional and Director of Angiographic Research. His last formal position was as a Study Director and Senior Scientist for the Charles River Laboratory’s Preclinical Drug and Device Development Sector. He has been a member of the American Heart Association Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, The National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technology and the National Board for Respiratory Care. He is the recipient of the AHA Young Investigators Award, The Wrights Foundation Award and the Oxnard Foundation Award. He enjoyed photography, loved to cook and especially enjoyed fishing for striped bass on Plum Island, Race Point and on the island of Nantucket. All are welcome to gather with Bill’s family Thursday January 24th from 4pm to 7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536.
