Obituary for Maureen Agley

GRAFTON: Maureen Agley, 59, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Sunday, December 30th after a long battle with Cancer and related ailments. She was born in Syracuse, New York on June 23, 1959 to William and Margaret Agley. She adored her older sister Mary Ellen and younger brothers Matt and Mark. From a young age she was dramatic and social. Maureen was involved with music and theater, was in many productions at Henninger High School, Lemoyne College, Syracuse Stage and other regional theaters. After graduation she tried her hand at Hollywood fame but moved back east for marriage and to start one of her many careers. Maureen graduated from the school of Television Arts and Production in New York City while working in publishing. Moving to Massachusetts in 1987, she worked in personnel recruiting and also worked seasonally for 25 years with her dear friends at Taxmatters preparing income taxes. Maureen went to Springfield Technical College to become a Certified Radiation Therapist and then worked for many years treating cancer patients at several area hospitals. She was known for making her patients feel supported and befriended. Maureen left to spend more time with her family and start her dream adventure raising animals. Maureen fell in love with alpacas and started an alpaca farm “Angel Hair Alpacas” along with her husband Jay and their two sons, Jamie and Jason. She was proud of breeding and showing her award winning alpacas as well as working at many area farmers markets, making friends wherever she went.

Maureen lived a happy life filled with a lifetime of friendships and fond memories shared with the family that she held so close to her. She had great adventures with her friends, hiking the Appalachian Trail, her time in California, New Jersey and her youth in Syracuse. She had an upbeat and remarkable personality that touched everyone she met. She saw humor most everywhere, often spoke her own unique language, had strong opinions but was accepting of others, could be very mischievous, playful and stubborn, giving and generous. Maureen’s friend Pam accurately described her as a “living leprechaun” and a “pixie of light.”

Maureen is survived by her husband of 34 years Jay Cohen and her two sons Jamie and Jason; siblings Mary Ellen, her husband John “Jay” and their children Jimmy Ebert, Melissa Kowalewski, and Kevin; Matt and his wife Annie and their children Matt Jr, Amanda and Caitlyn; Mark and his wife Bernie and their children Kelly, Erica Luann and Kyle; many beloved family spouses and their children. Maureen is pre-deceased by her parents William and Margaret Agley; and she leaves many pets and alpacas that she also loved dearly.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service Saturday January 12th at 12:00pm at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street, North Grafton and a reception to follow at the South Grafton Community House, 25 Main Street, South Grafton to celebrate Maureen’s life, reminisce, and support each other. In lieu of flowers the family has been raising donations for the Ellie Fund to support others afflicted with Cancer.
