Obituary for Charles G. Munson

Charles G. Munson
SHREWSBURY: In the quiet still of the night on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2018, one of the many known as America’s “Greatest Generation”, Charles G. “Charlie” Munson, 98, passed away peacefully at Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation in Worcester. His wife of 57 years, Bertha (Hardy) Munson passed away in 2007. He leaves his children Lori Ciccarelli and her husband Tom, Gail Marconi and her husband Skip and Tom Munson and his wife Kim, his grandchildren Ryan Bagster, PFC Christopher Bagster and his wife Chelsey, Jennah Ciccarelli, Nicholas and Evan Marconi, Tom K. Munson, Jr., Kimberly Covington, Michelle Munson and Staff Sgt. Charles Munson, Jr. and his wife Maya, his great-grandchildren Milan Munson, Lillyanna Rose Bagster and Harper Mae Bagster. He also leave behind several nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Bernard Munson. Charlie was born April 30, 1920 in Westford, VT, son of the late Mary (Townsend) and Cornelius Munson. He was a tremendous baseball player having been drafted by the Dodgers as a young man, but opting to join the U.S. Army instead to serve during World War II. He met his wife Bertha at the Rutland Veteran’s Hospital after the war. Charlie was made happiest by the simplest things, time with his children and grandchildren and their friends who will greatly miss their beloved “Joe Pa”. He and Bertha were active members of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. For many years Charlie worked at Wyman Gordon in North Grafton. After his retirement he worked at Stop N Shop in Shrewsbury for many years before declining health. For many years Charlie and Bertha called Shrewsbury home where they lived for over 50 years. Charlie’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Beaumont in Worcester where Charlie was cared for like family for several years and fondly called “Poppa Charlie”. Please remember Charlie in lieu of traditional remembrances with a donation to the activities department at the Beaumont Nursing Home Plantation St Worcester. All are welcome to graveside prayers and military honors for Charlie Friday November 16th at 11:00 am at Mountainview Cemetery in Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours. A Book of Memories to share a favorite story or message of sympathy with Charlie’s family is available online at:
