Obituary for Melvyn D. Hopkins (Hopkins)

GRAFTON: Melvyn Dale Hopkins passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday October 8th, 2017 at the age of 70.
Since 1978, Melvyn (Mel) lived in Grafton, MA with his wife of 49 years, Constance (Connie) Hopkins where they had three children. Mel leaves his wife, Connie, son Christopher and his wife Kelley, son Scott and his wife Lori and daughter, Cheryl Whitney and her husband, Barry as well as five grandchildren, Guinevere, Helena, Liam, Sydney and Morgan. He was born January 23, 1947 in Detroit, MI and his parents Helen and William Hopkins raised him and his sisters, Janeen and Sharene in Ferndale, MI.
Mel graduated from Wayne State University in 1969 with his degree in Electrical Engineering and worked all his life with high voltage power. He has five patents in his name. He began working at Westinghouse in 1969 and remained with this company which changed ownership to CGIT, ABB and then AZZ until he retired in 2012. Mel was a long-time member of IEEE an organization for electrical engineers. He always showed pride in his work and shared his excitement for this work.
Throughout these years, Mel became involved in many activities and events including Operation Friendship with his family in Grafton. Mel’s many hobbies included creating beautiful stained glass works of art, constructing gorgeous pieces of furniture and playing the guitar, piano and many other types of instruments. He enjoyed sharing his pieces of work and music with others in his life taking pride in his skills.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on October 21st at 11am at the Congregational Church in Grafton. Roney Funeral home is coordinating the funeral arrangements although there will be no calling hours and the burial will be private.
