Dear Diane and Family, We are deeply saddened over the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and friend. Steve embodied what it is to be a gentleman, a humanitarian, a comforter and a friend to all who knew him. Serving at St. Mary's with him was always a privilege and his ready smile and happy eyes were a nice greeting at 7:30 Sunday mornings! We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers and help to keep Steve's memory and dedication to our community ever present. Fondly Remembered, Donna & Paul Verdolino

This loss will effect everyone for a long time, I'm sure many people know what a kind soul heaven has gained. Several occasions over the years most recently with the passing of my parents a few years apart I had to go see Steve to make arrangements. I can remember trying to figure out what am I going to do as you are telling yourself to put one foot in front of the other to walk into the Funeral Home. Every time I walked in Steve would be waiting at the top of the stairs and just seeing him and being in his company you knew you were going to get through this. That type of person rarely comes along in a lifetime and those of us who got to know him are far better for it. Steve and his Wife Diane are some of the nicest people I know and my heart goes out to her as well as the rest of the Roney and O'Toole families. The town of Grafton has lost a Rock and a true friend to many. Being around him you always felt like you were his friend and you could look to him for advice or to answer questions or just help in general as well as always adding in some laughs. The service he and his family have provided to this town is immeasurable, whether it was the Fire Department or the Funeral Home you couldn't ask for more friendly compassionate care. God Bless you Captain Roney, thank you for your service and for being you.

Diane and Family, Steve was a first class gentleman. His presence at basketball games was something we looked forward to every game. We frequently commented on his antics and how he knew every player's name. His positive encouragement and humor was enjoyed by everyone; whether it was his persistent rants to the kids about "using the backboard" or his frequent digs at the refs. All said with sincerity, encouragement, and a smile. There simply was, no better person to sit with at a basketball game. We will miss our friend. Thank You so much for sharing him with us.

Diane, Ken and I were shocked and saddened to hear about Steve. It is unimaginable that such a kind, caring, compassionate lovely man should be taken so quickly and at such a young age. Even though we haven't seen each other in a while, when we did meet somewhere, I always got one of Steve's beautiful smiles, a big hug and inquiries about my family. This is a huge loss, especially for the family but also in a larger sense, to the entire community. Our prayers go out to you, Diane, your children, your grandchildren, siblings, in- laws, nieces, nephews and the entire family. God be with you all and grant you peace and comfort at this sad time.

Steve will sadly be missed by his loving family and many friends. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to his family. Steve was wonderful to my mother and our entire family when we lost our dad in 2007. My parents had been living in Florida for many years and didn't know anyone locally. As we were bringing him home to Shrewsbury for his memorial service and burial, Steve stepped up and made it all possible. He took care of arrangements in Florida so that we could get home over a holiday weekend attending to every detail with competence and kindness. Again when our mother passed away earlier this year, he assisted our family with much compassion! Thank you, Steve...you will be missed by many and yes, you made a difference♥️.

Diane and all the family - I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing...our "funeral home" families have been friends for so, so many years. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers as you begin this difficult journey of loss and acceptance. "Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Stephen. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen."
