Obituary for Hugh T. Briody (Briody)

Hugh T. Briody (71) of Charlton, MA and Fort Myers Beach, FL, passed away on January 14, 2017, from cancer. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 36 years, Susan (Smith) Briody, his daughter, Bridget Joiner and her husband, Robert of North Grosvenordale, CT, and his grandchildren, Katie and Tommy. His best friend and brother-in-law, Phil Trapasso and his wife, Debbie of Grafton, MA, a son, John and a grandson, Ethan. He leaves a large extended family. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Briody of Bennington, VT, in 1990.
He was born December 17, 1945, in Queens, New York, to Hugh Patrick Briody and Geraldine (Robinson). He grew up in Bennington, VT, where he modeled for Norman Rockwell’s March, 1952, Saturday Evening Post cover, "At The Vets." He graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1963. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. He is a graduate of Nichols College, Dudley, MA.
In high school, Hugh worked for Howard Johnson’s in Bennington, VT, then transferred to Oxford, MA, in 1963, as Assistant Manager. He started as a machinist at Jamesbury Corporation, Worcester, MA, working his way up to Director of Manufacturing. During his 31 years there, he managed the manufacturing plants in Worcester, Mexico and England. He was General Manager of Manufacturing at TBV Ball Valves in Westboro, MA. He finished his career at Circor International. He lived in Oklahoma City four years where he was Vice President of Manufacturing, then as General Manager in Suzhou, China, for six years retiring in 2011.
Hugh was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed many interests: restoring antique Model A’s, golfing, fishing, boating, and traveling with his wife.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, January 21st, from 2pm to 5pm at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536, followed by a celebration of his life at Chester P. Tuttle Post 279, 88 Bancroft Street, Auburn, MA 01501, at 6:00pm. Burial will be Monday, January 23rd at 1:00pm in Bennington Park Lawn Cemetery, Rte. 7 Woodford, VT 05201.
