Obituary for JUNE L. ORNE

June L. (Leavitt) Orne, 91, passed away at home December 3, 2014. Her husband Laurence Eaton Orne passed away in 1992. June leaves her children Susan Laperriere and her husband Robert, Deborah Orne, Christopher Orne and his wife Cheryl, Jonathan Orne and his wife Marti and Natalie Brackett and her husband Stephen, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. June was born June 21, 1923 in Waltham, MA, daughter of the late Florence (Schaffer) and Mahlon Leavitt. She corresponded with Laurence faithfully while he served in World War II and they were married soon after he returned from his service in the Army. While June and Laurence raised their young family his work led to them to call several places throughout New England, and for a brief time Arizona home, before they settled in Billerica for 25 years. Upon retirement June and Laurence then resided in Nashua, NH for 26 years. Those who knew June will remember a strong, independent woman who always kept her family and faith at her center. She worked for more than 20 years at Lowell General Hospital as an LPN, a Lactation Consultant and also taught childbirth classes. Having gone back to school to earn her LPN certification at 50 years old was always a source of pride for June. June was also a faithful steward of her church, the First Congregational Church in Billerica for 50+ years and sang in the choir nearly as long. Anyone who visited the Orne home might have heard June quietly singing her favorite gospel hymns. June also shared her gift as a seamstress, having made dresses for her daughters' graduation and bridesmaid gowns for a wedding as well. There were many summers she and her family would enjoy the vacation venues of New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers her family requests you honor June with donations to her beloved First Congregational Church Memorial Fund located at 18 Andover Road Billerica, MA 01821. All are welcome to join June's family for a Memorial service for June on December 13 at 12PM at the First Congregational Church in Billerica. Burial will be private at the convenience of her family.
