Obituary for RICARDO A. DURAN

Ricardo A. Duran, 60, passed away at home July 23, 2012 after a period of declining health.
Mr. Duran was born on Feb. 19, 1952, in Guatemala City to Maria and Alfredo Duran. He is survived by his loving wife Odette A. (Tobar) Duran, his son Ricardo A. "Ricky" Duran, his daughters Julia P., Maria O., and Natalie M. Duran. He also leaves his brother Oscar Duran, his sisters-in-law Elaine "Bootsie" Duran and Dunia Leal, and and his sister Elsa and her husband Edward Castillo along with many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family and friends from Guatemala, Florida, California and New Jersey. His brother Luis Duran predeceased him.
Ricardo and his wife moved from Guatemala to Boston, at the early age of 21 to build a life and family. He obtained his bachelors in Computer Science at Northeastern University and later received his MBA from Nichols College. His dedication and magnetic personality led him to become a very successful professional. He made his beautiful home in Grafton, Ma. where he and Odette raised their four children. Ricardo was also a very talented musician and he passed this gift to his children. He spent many wonderful nights in the recording studio he built on his own, teaching his son how to play different instruments and recording albums. It was evident to everyone who knew Ricardo that he had two passions in his life; his love of music and his love for his family. Ricardo's love for his children extended to their friends and his home became a second home to many. He loved to entertain and was always the life of the party. Whether it be sitting around his kitchen table and making memories, or downstairs in his recording studio playing the guitar with his son while everyone sat and enjoyed.
Ricardo Duran will be greatly missed but the memories of him will live on forever. In lieu of flowers his family requests memorial donations to The American Cancer Society at PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or online at
All are invited to calling hours for Ricardo Friday July 27th from 5 to 8pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N.Grafton MA 01536. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday July 28th at 11:00am at St. Mary's Church 17 Waterville St. N. Grafton MA 01536. He will then be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton.
