Obituary for William M Miley

MILLBURY – William “Bill” Miley, 80, of Millbury passed away on November 13, 2018 after a brave battle with liver cancer. Born in Watertown, MA to parents Michael and Barbara (Ganley) Miley, May 8th, 1938.
Bill is predeceased by his sister Barbara Bonanno. He is survived by his sister Joan Fox and her husband Ralph of Buzzards Bay, MA. Along with many nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind his children, Michael Miley, his wife Melinda, their children Michelle and Michael of Carlsbad, CA., Shawn Miley of Tampa, FL., Gail Miley of W. Yarmouth, and Todd Miley, his children Travis and Ryan of Northbridge, MA; Amanda of Lawrence, MA and Nathan of Charlton, MA.
He leaves his longtime partner, Grainne McAvey of Millbury, MA.
Bill was a graduate of Watertown High School. After graduating from high school he served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps.
After serving in the Marines, he began working at UPS in Watertown. In 1969, he transferred to UPS in Shrewsbury where he was a truck driver. In 1980, he was elected as a Business Agent for Local 170 and served as a Business Agent for 15 years. He served on the National Labor Relations Board. As Business Agent he negotiated many union contracts and settled numerous arbitration cases. He was actively involved with the Easter Seals Foundation.
After retiring he enjoyed the winters in Cape Coral, FL and the summers in Worcester where he enjoyed attending his grandson’s baseball, flag football and football games. He was an avid golfer.
He enjoyed helping out at Mrs. Mack’s Bakery with more socializing with the customers than helping.
In lieu of flowers contributions to the Rose Monahan Hospice House, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602 would be appreciated.
In lieu of calling hours and funeral service, Mr. Miley has requested there be a “Celebration of Life” ceremony at The Manor – 42 West Boylston St., West Boylston, MA 01583 on Monday November 26th from 12:00-4:00pm.
