Obituary for Robert McGee

Robert McGee
GRAFTON: Robert E. McGee, 88, passed away on October 25, 2018, at New Horizons in Marlborough. Bob was born on April 21, 1930 in North Grafton and was the son of the late Albert E. and Isabella F. McGee. He was the sixth of their seven children and was predeceased by his siblings: Vincent, Ruth, Ellen, Leslie, Marie and Rita.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Marilyn (Johnson) McGee, and his children Neil McGee and his wife Geeta; Ida Trombly and her husband David; Pamela McGee; Jason McGee; and step-children Robert Eager, Jr. and his wife Deborah; Betsy Jasper; Wendy Swartz and her husband Charles; Heidi Wright and her husband Tim; plus fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, with eighteen months of active duty in Korea. He worked at Anchor Motor Freight in Framingham for thirty-two years and he was a proud member of Teamsters Local 170.

During those years, Bob enjoyed farming and raising animals in North Grafton. He was a member of the Blackstone Valley Riding and Driving Club, the American Driving Society, the Donkey and Mule Society, and the New England Beef Association. He and his wife were very active leaders and volunteers with the Worcester County Extension 4-H Horse Program at the club, county, and state levels and led the 4-H Horse Club for Grafton youth for many years. Bob enjoyed riding and driving horses all of his life, including driving his matched set of mules in local parades and weddings after his retirement in 1990.

In 1991, he and Marilyn moved to Cape Coral, Florida, where they lived for seventeen years. They were active members of the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ where Bob served on the Church Council and also led the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He volunteered on Habitat for Humanity building projects, enjoyed boating around Cape Coral, and spending time with his wide circle of friends. Bob and Marilyn moved back to Massachusetts in 2009, when Bob developed a passion for building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He joined the Central Massachusetts Radio Control Modelers Club and could often be found at the airfield in Westborough flying planes and mentoring other club members.

All are welcome to gather with Bob’s family for a memorial service to celebrate his life on November 11, 2018 at 2PM at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street, North Grafton, Massachusetts. In lieu of flower, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to support patient care at VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, Fund Development Office, 199 Rosewood Drive, Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923 or via www.vnacare.org.
