Obituary for John J. D'Apollo

John J. D'Apollo
John J. D’Apollo, 87, of 48206 Carousel Lane, Lunenburg, MA passed away on the morning of Friday, July 27th 2018. John was the son of Salvatore D’Apollo and Josephine LaMonica. He and his beloved wife, Josephine, raised three children: Richard, Michael, and Eva Marie. He has eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. John grew up in Philadelphia and married Josephine D’Angelo in 1953. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded distinct honors for his service while stationed in Germany.

After an honorable discharge from the US Army and returning to the states, John worked first as an apprentice Plumber, then as a Pipe Fitter, first at New York Ship Yard, then at Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard where he eventually became a Senior Planner and Estimator. He finished his career after 30 years of dedicated civil service. During this time despite the tumultuous social and difficult economic times of the 1960’s and 1970’s, he obtained his High School GED and Master Plumber License while raising his children, supporting his wife, and providing a comfortable life for his family.

John was extremely intelligent. He was a skilled mechanic who would never hesitate to take on a project and achieve flawless results. He enjoyed all types of music, played harmonica, and was a talented singer with a pleasant, strong voice. John was an angry young man, but he always had a great big heart. He worked hard to overcome his anger and he did. He replaced his anger with love for everyone. He loved his wife and kids dearly. He is remembered as the life of the party with an uncanny sense of humor that amused everyone around him. He is sorely missed.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 12:00PM at St. Peter & Paul cemetery, 1600 S Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. A memorial dinner will be held at Cascata Caffe Ristorante Italiano located on 801 W Sproul Road in Springfield, PA 19064. All are invited to partake in this meal which is being held in his honor.
