Obituary for Thelma Powers (Torosian)

GRAFTON- Thelma (Torosian) Powers, 82 passed away Tuesday October 3,2017 following a short illness. Her husband of 52 years, John F. Powers passed away in 2016.
Thelma was born January 1935 in Worcester, the daughter of Elizabeth (Demoorjian) and Zaven Torosian who were both born in Tadem Armenia and were survivors of the Armenian Genocide. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1954. Thelma’s roots were in Worcester but a few years after marriage, she and John moved to Grafton where they lived for over 50 years. She was always easy to find at St. James Tuesday night bingo games, treasured morning coffee with her friends and her brother Ted at Stephanie’s restaurant in South Grafton. Thelma would enjoy trying her luck at the casino on occasion.
She is survived by her son, Kevin of Grafton, and her daughter Christine Lemoine and her husband Marc of Shrewsbury. Her grandchildren Amanda and John Lemoine, her brother Theodore M. Torosian and his wife Joyce of Whitinsville, her sister Alice Frost and her husband Lynn of Niantic, Connecticut. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Philip Powers of Shrewsbury, and Paul Powers and his wife Nancy of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Monday October 9th from 5 to 7 PM at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street N Grafton, MA 01536.
Her funeral services will be Tuesday October 10th at 11:00 AM at St Asdvadzadzin Armenia Apostolic Church in Whitinsville. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in S. Grafton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Asdvadzadzin Armenia Apostolic Church in Whitinsville, MA 01588 in Thelma’s name.
