Lonnie was one of my four first cousins, the son of my fathers' oldest brother, Morrie. For years after Lonnie had moved to Hawaii he always extended invitations to me to come to visit. In 2007 I finally had the opportunity to travel there. It was an amazing trip due in very large part to my amazing cousin and host. From the moment I told Lonnie that I would be coming, he began to plan to make my trip "unforgettable". Lonnie arranged to have my airline ticket upgraded to first class since he knew that the flight was going to be a long one" from Boston and wanted to make sure that I was comfortable. Until then I had never flown first class and will always remember his kindness. At the airport he met me with a fresh floral lei and a second one that he had made for me with crisp dollar bills folded, accordion pleated style, attached to the colorful ribbons on the beaded lei. I still have it 10 years later exactly as he had given it to me. Every day that I stayed with Lonnie was planned with sightseeing and dining and some exercise thrown in. We climbed Diamond Head together, something which he told me he did everyday. Lonnie had an exact routine for the restaurants that he would visit each day of the week. No Arbys for Lonnie! We went to wonderful places and had delicious meals together. We had lunch one day with another cousin that we shared and whom I had never met. We, Goldmans. had found each other and enjoyed each other's company. Lonnie took lots and lots of pictures as we travelled around each day sightseeing and ever night he would have those pictures developed and would put them in an album ready for me to take home. Lonnie loved the home that he and his late wife, Marion, had shared together and was thrilled that I was getting to see it. He loved his model trains and his face lit up as he turned the engines on and the train moved along the track that he had built. Lonnie was so proud of his daughters and grandaughters and loved to talk about them with me. I remember when my daughter was just a baby, my parents went on vacation to Hawaii and brought back pictures of Lonnie with his little angel, Debbie, who was then about a year old. Lonnie was smiling "ear to ear" and bursting with pride in those pictures. The last time that I had visited Lonnie was a few months ago when his health had already begun to deteriorate and he was confined to bed. Although his health was definitely failing, Lonnie's smile was as wide as ever and he was so positive in all his conversation. I will always remember him for the kind, loving, caring person that he was. He loved deeply and his love for Marion extended beyond his life with her. Love never dies and that was definitely evident when Lonnie spoke of her. I truly believe that our loved ones pass from this earth and are no longer with us in the physical sense; however they never leave us. Lonnie is reunited with his beloved Marion as well as all our loved ones who passed before. Although his family here will miss his physical presence, I know that he will never leave them in spirit. We will remember him for the twinkle in his eyes, the grin on his face, his colorful floral shirts and for his zest for life. Rest in Peace, my dear cousin...You are one very special guy!!

Our hearts go out to the family of Lonnie Goldman at this time. We know that he is in a better place now and with his beloved wife, my auntie Marion. He always left the door open to my wife Eileen and I to stay in Hawaii with him for awhile when I would gripe about our New Hampshire winter. At our family reunions here in Concord, Massachusetts he would often bring a new tech toy with him or talk with us about what he's been "playing" with. When he was not hiking Diamond Head he spent some time rebuilding antique jukeboxes that played 45 RPM records. He taught us how to do the twist with Chubby Checker. His love of life and living in the earthly paradise of Hawaii made him the uncle that we always loved. He was my voice in the wilderness when the snow ran deep. We will miss him greatly but his smiling face will shine down upon us. With tender love and condolences, Juan & Eileen Paredes
