Obituary for Shirley I. Badgley (Shipman)

SHREWSBURY: Shirley (Shipman) Badgley of Shrewsbury MA died February 15, 2017 in the care of the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester MA surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert G Badgley with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Family meant everything to Shirley- including friends who she considered family.

She was born on August 16, 1928 in Pittsburgh PA, the daughter of the late J Ellis and Ingeborg Shipman. Shirley grew up in Philadelphia PA and then attended Edinboro State College in PA where she met her husband. Shirley and Bob spent over 30 years living and raising their children in Shrewsbury. Upon retirement Shirley and Bob moved to Jupiter FL and then Indiantown FL where they enjoyed many years of golfing, playing bridge and enjoying good times with family and friends. After Bob’s death in 2007 Shirley moved back to Shrewsbury to be closer to her family. Shirley spent time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved everything golf, bridge and vacations with her children. Shirley was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Palm City, FL and a founding member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury.

Shirley is survived by her four daughters: Barbara S Berthiaume and her husband Thomas of Granby MA, Sherry L Alarie and her husband Ronald of Shrewsbury, Bonnie L Belair of Salem MA and Robin G Hanson of Webster MA. Shirley leaves six grandchildren: Thomas and Daniel Moroney, Shawn Alarie, Erin O’Toole, Christopher and Caila Hanson and twelve great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Dr. William Walsh and Dr. Jesse Aronowitz at U Mass Memorial Hospital Worcester MA for their compassionate care and all of our supportive friends.

Arrangements:
All are invited to attend a Memorial Service in celebration of Shirley’s life on Friday, February 24th at 10 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 Main St in Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours. She will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
