Obituary for Robert V. Deiana (Deiana) Sr.

GRAFTON/POCASSET,MA: Robert V. Deiana, 79, passed away at his home on Cape Cod February 19, 2017 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Murray) Deiana, his sons Robert Deiana, Jr. and his wife Dawna and Thomas Deiana and his wife Michelle, 5 grandchildren; Emma, Meghan, Katherine, William and Maxwell and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Maureen Deiana and his 3 siblings. Bob was born July 19, 1937 in Hopkinton, MA son of the late Mary (Oates) and Francis Deiana. His roots were in Hopkinton where he graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1954. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The College of the Holy Cross in 1958 followed by his Law degree from Georgetown University. He served proudly as a JAG in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service he began a distinguished career practicing law at Mirick O’Connell Esq. in Worcester that spanned 42 years. He was a Vice President of the Massachusetts Bar Association and a Trustee at the Greendale YMCA. Bob and Theresa realized a life long dream together when they purchased their home in Pocasset on Cape Cod where they spent 25 happy years together. During the summers Bob reveled in the sound of a tennis ball hitting the court as he played often or the gentle splash of his sailboat finding its way into the harbor down the road from his home on Cape Cod. He’ll be remembered as a loving husband and father that lived a full life with quiet humility. All are welcome to a Funeral Mass to be celebrated for Bob on Friday February 24th at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church 17 Waterville St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. There are no calling hours. He will then be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in North Grafton. Please honor Bob with a memorial donation to The American Cancer Society PO Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or online at www.Cancer.org.
