Obituary for Marie A. Nicalek (Vincent)

GRAFTON: Marie A. (Vincent) Nicalek, 74, passed away January 28, 2017 after a long illness at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehab. Marie was born April 7, 1942 in Grafton and was a lifetime resident. She was a daughter to the late Alfred E. and Ida (Remillard) Vincent. Marie leaves her husband of 51 years Eugene F. Nicalek, a daughter, Susan M. Whitelaw and her husband Alex of Ayer, three sons, Thomas J. Nicalek and his wife Jodi of Grafton, Michael A. Nicalek of Buzzards Bay and his fiancé Terrie McManus of Milton, Stephen F. Nicalek and his wife Erin of Grafton and six grandchildren, whom she adored, Thomas Jr, Matthew, Michael Francis, Brendan, Austin and Amelia. Marie also leaves two brothers, Paul Vincent and his wife Cis of South Dennis and Leo Vincent and his wife Paula of Grafton, one brother-in-law Kenneth Nicalek and his wife Janet of Northborough, several nieces and nephews, many cousins and several close friends.
Marie attended Ascension High School in Worcester, graduating in 1959. She then enrolled in St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, graduating the class of 1962. Marie, a Registered Nurse, worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital, for 29 years in various areas of nursing from Staff Nurse to Management to specialty areas such ICU, PACU and Radiology. She was also a nurse for the VNA of Worcester, Worcester Surgical Center, and North Grafton Elementary School over the next 5 years. Her nursing career epitomized her loving and compassionate nature while caring for her Head Start students for her last 8 years in nursing at various locations including Adams Street, Lee Street, Millbury Street and Vernon Hill in Worcester before hanging up her "cap".
Marie and Gene loved traveling throughout the country, especially their trips to the casinos. You could always find Marie at the 50 yard line, mid-court or 3rd base line watching her sons and grandsons play football, basketball, baseball and lacrosse. She enjoyed reading, swimming in her pool, or spending time with her friends over lunch. Marie was a party planner holding many holiday parties and milestone events for family and friends at her home. She was an avid New England Patriots and Red Sox fan. She was a member of the St. Vincent School of Nursing Alumni Association and 50th class reunion committee. Most of all, Marie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will always be remembered as Grammy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marie’s name to the Grafton High School Athletic Fund at 24 Providence Road Grafton, MA 01519.
All are welcome to gather with Marie’s family Wednesday February 1st from 4pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton MA 01536.
