GRAFTON: Doris M. (Cardin) Vaillancourt died peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2016, at Life Care Center of Auburn. On November 23, 2015, she celebrated her 94th birthday. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret (Sampson) Cardin.
Doris was the beloved wife of Norman J. Vaillancourt, who died in 1990, one month shy of their 50th anniversary. She leaves her 3 devoted sons, Ernest Vaillancourt and his wife Catherine, Norman Vaillancourt and his wife Marilynn, and Steven Vaillancourt and his wife Lisa, and her son-in-law, Ronald Forget. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her brothers, Alfred, Albert, and Robert Cardin and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Forget, her great grandson PFC Brian Moquin, her brothers Francis and Walter Cardin, and her sisters Mabel Hanley and Evelyn Witkofski.
Doris grew up in Fisherville (The Village), a section of South Grafton. When her short-term memory weakened, that was the place she referred to as home. She spent her married life on East Street in North Grafton, and then moved to Douglas to be close to her daughter when her husband died. She resided in Life Care Center of Auburn for the last four years. The family appreciates the care she received there, especially from Samantha, Faustina and Theresa.
Doris centered her life around her home and her family. She loved holiday celebrations and spontaneous dinners around her kitchen table. Visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her very happy. Everyone in her family will miss her warm smile, big hugs, and her impish sense of humor, which she never lost. She was a loving and well-loved mother, mother-in-law and Memere.
